* North Providence Troop 5 is planning a paper drive Nov. 11. Proceeds from the drive will go toward paying the premium for the troop's accident insurance policy.

* Philip J. Shea, son of Mr. and Mrs. Philip Shea of North Providence, is the first U.S. Marine in the Quonset Guard promoted to the rank of Non Commissioned Officer in the corps new ranking structure. He received corporal chevrons at a ceremony at Quonset Point.

* The top tunes are 1. "Mr. Blue" 2. "Mack the Knife" 3. "Teen Beat" 4. "Don't Know You."

* The masquerade party at St. Pius X Columbus Club in Scituate was fantastic. The costumes were such that picking a winner in any category was impossible and the committee had to award the prizes by drawing.

* Bouchard's Texaco station on Putnam Pike is celebrating its 25th anniversary with a grand opening. "Beautiful orchids for the ladies flown in special from Hawaii."

* John Beretta, chairman of the North Providence High School Alumni Association, reports that over 200 new members have been enrolled in the organization.

* The Smithfield Rocket Club met in the conference room at Hearthside Bowling Lanes to view a movie about the U.S. Army's pioneer satellite program.

* The hayride scheduled for Halloween night by the youth of the Mt. Hygeia section of Foster was canceled by the rainy weather. Volunteer drivers, however, offered their cars for a trick or treat tour of the community that ended at the home of Mildred Doar for games and refreshments for the 17 trick or treaters.
