* A subcommittee of the Smithfield Citizens Council showed that a three-year high school with an enrollment of 690 students could be built for $860,000.

* The newly formed North Providence Chamber of Commerce elected Roland Desaulniers as president, Robert Maggiacomo, vice president; A. Edward Azevedo, treasurer; and Leo R. Murphy, secretary.

* Gov. Del Sesto proclaimed this week Patriotic Education Week in cooperation with the national Society of the Children of the American Revolution. The objectives of the society are to acquire knowledge of American history, help preserve the places made sacred by the men and women who forwarded American independence, ascertain the deeds and memory of those who served in the American revolution, promote the celebration of patriotic anniversaries, hold the American flag as sacred, to love, uphold and extend the institution of American liberty and patriotism.

* Halloween parties are planned by the Scituate Police Association, the town's volunteer fire departments and the VFW. Children in Hope will march in the Parade of the Horribles and go to the Hope Canteen, where their costumes will be judged, games played and apples and doughnuts consumed in great quantities.

* Homecoming Hostess for Homecoming and Family Day at URI is Kathleen M. Nardelli, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dante Nardelli of Beverly Circle.

* The Chepachet Square Dance Club has chosen a name: The Village Promenaders.

* Winkleman & Finklestein Co., 2031-35 Smith St., North Providence, is holding its 52nd anniversary sale: pillow cases, 37 cents each; men's socks, 22 cents a pair; men's flannel shirts, $1.62; men's suits, $24.52; ladies shoes, $1.92 and girl's cha cha boots, $2.52.
