Audubon Society announces November programs
SMITHFIELD - The Audubon Society of Rhode Island announces its November programs and events for children and families at the Powder Mill Ledges Refuge. A complete listing of activities and programs are detailed in the fall Audubon Nature Tours and Programs, available by calling 949-5454 or online at asri.org .
Storytime with Audubon - Enjoy story time with your preschooler each month. The programs include the reading of a nature story with hands-on activities followed by a nature craft. Adults must accompany children. Friday, Nov. 20: "The Apple Pie Tree" by Zoe Hall. Program times are 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.; program fee: $5/member child; $6/non-member child; ages 3-5.
Nature Play Group - Fridays, Nov. 6 and 13, 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Join the new nature play group and get the children outside. Participants will explore nature the way they choose, and parents can learn how to facilitate nature play in their own lives. Wear closed-toe shoes and dress for the weather. This program will take place rain or shine. Program fee per class: $5/member child, $6/non-member child; Ages: 3-5.
Turkey Trot - Wednesday, Nov. 18, 10:30-11:30 a.m. or 1-2 p.m. Learn about the antics of turkeys with an Audubon naturalist and make a turkey craft to take home. Program Fee: $6/member child, $8/non-member child; adults free; ages 3-5.
Owl Prowl at Fort Refuge - Friday, Nov. 20, 7-9 p.m. Join Audubon for a night hike on the Fort Refuge in search of owls. The guide will call for different species as the group travels through the woods. Wear closed-toe shoes and dress warmly. Bring a flashlight. Fort Nature Refuge, 1443 Providence Pike, North Smithfield. Program fee: $8/member adult, $4/member child; $10/non-member adult, $5/non-member child. Ages 9 and up.
